About a million Web-years ago, around 10 years in offline time, I wandered onto a website. I’ve forgotten the name, but it was a portal of sorts, and it had a trivia chat room. Being a fan of trivia, I joined, and ended up meeting quite a few entertaining folks. One of these folks was a bright, engaging young woman 6 years my junior, and she showed some curiosity about IRC and the Web. So we got to talking – I probably got to lecturing, knowing me, poor her – and over the past decade I’ve watched her curiosity bloom into full-on passion for information architecture.
Tonight, I met her in person for the first time. Here, you should meet her too: her website is Pixie Purls, so bonus for you knitters out there.
It’s funny, this new world we’ve approached. Our boats sailed into port in the middle of the night, while most of us were asleep. Some of us are leaping off and clambering up the coastline, and some of us are standing on the deck with a spyglass squint, and some of us are still dozing down below, but here we are.
